THE SAINT JOSEPH SYMPHONY JOINS FORCES WITH THE ST. JOSEPH COMMUNITY CHORUS AND THE BENEDICTINE CHAMBER SINGERS FOR
MOZART’S ICONIC REQUIEM ON MARCH 22ND
St. Joseph, Missouri, February 17th, 2025
The Saint Joseph Symphony and Music Director and Conductor Christopher Kelts in collaboration with the Saint Joseph Community Chorus, THE Benedictine College Chamber Singers, and four area guest soloists brings to the Missouri Theater one of Mozart’s most enduring, moving, and important works for chorus and orchestra, Requiem. Literally written by the composer on his deathbed in 1791, the creation of this work has been shrouded in legend, mystery and folklore. Who was the mysterious masked stranger in the cloak who commissioned it and why? Mozart came to believe he was writing it for himself and died before that was accomplished, leaving his student Franz Xaver Süssmayr, to complete the work based on his sketches. Requiem is a poignant reflection of Mozart’s final artistic legacy. Known for its haunting melodies, dramatic intensity, and profound emotional depth, the Requiem has captivated audiences for over two centuries. Highlights include the thunderous Dies Irae, the soaring Lacrimosa, and the majestic Rex Tremendae. Each movement invites listeners on a transcendent journey through themes of mortality, redemption, and hope.
The performance will take place in the historic and ornately beautiful Missouri Theater – a fitting venue for this important work – on March 22nd at 7:00 p.m. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for a pre-concert reception with complimentary wine, chocolates and coffee.
“Mozart’s Requiem is more than music; it’s an emotional and spiritual experience,” says Managing Director Nancy Schmidt-Brunson. “It speaks to the core of our shared humanity, transcending time and culture. To experience this beautiful, dynamic and inspirational work LIVE should be on every music lover’s ‘bucket list’!”
