Downtown Beautification
With a commitment to making downtown an attractive place to live, work and visit, the St. Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District provides maintenance of Coleman Hawkins Park, planting of the planters and hanging baskets scattered throughout the district and trash pick-up.
Sculpture Walk
Making downtown pedestrian-friendly contributes to the revitalization of the district. With this objective in mind, the St. Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District sponsors the Sculpture Walk downtown. This program, facilitated by the Allied Arts Council, brings in new sculptures from artists across the United States to display their work. At the end of the year, the council selects a sculpture to purchase and add to their permanent collection. All pieces are available for purchase by private individuals.
Coleman Hawkins Park at Felix Street Square
Coleman Hawkins Park at Felix Street Square offers a variety of entertainment options in the summer and fall. The St. Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District is a sponsor of several of the events that are held here. Some of the events are the “Sounds of Summer” concert series, Imagine 11 concert series.
Grant Program
The St. Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District funds a grant program to promote property rehabilitation.
Downtown Murals
The St. Joseph Downtown Community Improvement District keeps a close eye on the condition of the downtown murals. In 2022 they made repairs to some of the mural signs.
